McCaw Funeral Service has over a half century of service and commitment to Lloydminster and the greater Midwest community.
Meredith (Mert) McCaw founded McCaw Funeral Service in May of 1948 when he moved to Turtleford, Saskatchewan and purchased the existing funeral service firm from undertakers - Jim Ripley of Mervin and Adolf Adams of Maidstone, Saskatchewan. Together, Mert and his wife Helen served the towns and surrounding communities of Marshall, Maidstone, Paynton, and the Turtleford-Edam areas for ten years. Today, McCaw Funeral Service still maintains a sub-office in Turtleford, Saskatchewan.In 1958, Mert and Helen moved to Lloydminster, Saskatchewan to establish a new funeral home. Tragically, Mert died a year later in a motor vehicle accident and Helen was left to operate the business until she sold it to Mert's brother Dave McCaw in 1964.
Dave had worked for his brother Mert in 1953/54 while attending school in Turtleford. In 1956, Dave came to work for Mert full time, receiving his Saskatchewan embalmer's licence in 1958. He worked with Mert's widow Helen until he purchased the business from her in 1964.In 1967 a fire destroyed the McCaw funeral home. Dave purchased the Moore Funeral building from Walter Thorpe in December, 1967. McCaw Funeral Service remains in the same location today.
Dave married Agnes Johnson of the Turtleford area in 1958. Agnes was involved in all areas of the family business until her death in December of 1991. Dave and Agnes have five sons: two of the five sons, Glenn and Dale, are actively involved in the family funeral business and both hold their Alberta and Saskatchewan embalmer's licences.
McCaw Funeral Service remains committed to providing high quality funeral service with compassion, respect, and personal attention which is devoted to each family we serve. This high level of service is attained through our genuine care and compassion for each grieving family; serving each family as though we were serving our own.
The McCaw Family have been committed to serving the people of Lloydminster and area for over 50 years.
McCaw Funeral Service was invited to join an international association of independent funeral homes called Selected Independent Funeral Homes in 1971. Dave McCaw served on The Saskatchewan Funeral Service Association in the 1960's; Dave was also on the Alberta Funeral Service Association executive committee for seven years and served on the Selected Independent Funeral Homes board of directors from 1984 to 1987.
