Please share a memory of Leslie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SUTTON ~ Leslie William Sutton of Marshall, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2015. Les was born in Lashburn on September 22, 1935 to Cyril and Laura Sutton. He was the eighth of nine children. Participation in the War was very important to the family with both his parents and six of his siblings involved at one time or another. Les attended school in Marshall and Prince Albert. He drove a team of horses to school and always entered the “first out of the school yard” race. A somewhat dangerous activity. He attended Ag school in Saskatoon and one of his Grandsons played hockey in the same arena on campus. It’s still there today. Les farmed all his adult life in the Marshall area. He always said he was going to retire, but kept very involved in the farm until last year. Les loved sports and the comradery that came with it: shooting pool (I think its called hustling), curling, ball, bowling, sledding, hunting, camping, fishing and golf. Well, lets just say he had a set for each hand and neither would cooperate. He blamed his Grade 1 teacher. Les met the young school teacher at Wirral School, Ethel Goheen, and they were married in August 1956. They were blessed with nearly 59 years. Les was pretty content with life and he never asked for much. He enjoyed fixing and tinkering in the shop and just being a farmer. He also enjoyed following his children and grandchildren in sports and activities and watching his great grandchildren grow. His family meant everything to him. One of the Grandsons summed up Les’s life when he left a note to his caregivers in palliative. “Thank you for taking good care of my Grandpa. He has always been a kind person to everyone.” Les is missed by his loving wife, Ethel. His four children: son, Garnet (Vivian) and their children: Scott (Sara), Aaron (Megan) and Nicole (Harrison); daughter, Rhonda (Neil) Reece and their children: Jason (Mandy), Shawn (Khaylia), Reagan (Brittany) and Jarrett (Destiny); son, Greg (Asta) and their children: Jasper and Tuuli; son, Dale (Janet) and their children: Kyle and Eric and three great grandchildren: Gavin, Josh and Alexia; sister, Barb (Fern) Fortier; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Sutton and Audrie Suberlak; and brother-in-law, Vernon (Doreen) Goheen as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion or to a charity of the donors choice. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster, administered the arrangements. Card of Thanks Thank you to everyone for the condolences, visits, flowers, cards, donations, phone calls and food. A special thank you to Dr. Naidoo, nurses and staff at the Lloydminster Hospital for all the visits to the hospital. That made his day. Special thanks to Brett, Glenn and staff at McCaw Funeral Service for their gentle, caring way.
